In this presentation the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and Roth IAMS will explore the challenges faced by higher education institutions in managing campus facilities and infrastructure and share the story of how USM is successfully taking on these challenges in their own unique way. Leveraging their Facility Condition Assessment (FCA) data, USM embarked on a unique path distinct from other state institutions, transitioning a pilot program at one of the Coastal campuses to an institution-wide roll-out, including successfully securing money to do address some important Deferred Capital Renewal and Maintenance needs. This presentation will continue the story that USM and Roth IAMS began telling at SRAPPA 2022 in Tampa.

As Director of Facilities Planning and Management for The University of Southern Mississippi’s Coastal Operations since 2021, Lucas oversees all facilities functions at USM’s satellite campuses, laboratories, and teaching sites along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Lucas is an Air Force veteran who served for 21 years, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern New Hampshire University. He also holds the Project Management Professional and Certified Educational Facilities Professional certifications.
As a licensed architect since 1997, Brian Hauff has over 20 years of higher education experience in facilities management, planning, design, and construction. Brian has led as a consultant, architect, director of facilities, and now as the Associate Vice President for Facilities Planning and Management for the University of Southern Mississippi. Brian has managed over $350 million of work in his career, most of it in higher education. He is currently licensed in Mississippi, and has also worked in Montana, Idaho, Virginia, and Missouri.
