Daniel J. Alfonso is the Vice President of Facilities Management and Public Safety at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Davie, Florida. At NSU, he oversees the team responsible for maintaining the various campuses throughout the States of Florida, Puerto Rico, and Denver, Colorado. Mr. Alfonso also oversees design and construction, renovations, and student housing and is responsible for the public safety of all campuses. Most importantly, Mr. Alfonso is responsible for ensuring that the campuses of NSU look fantastic, the water runs, the toilets flush, the lights are on, and the A/C works. Danny, as his colleagues call him, began work at NSU in Dec. 2017 after serving in local government at Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami for more than 23 years, with his last role being that of the City Manager at the City of Miami, Florida, where he served for 4 years.
While working full-time at Miami Dade County, Mr. Alfonso earned a Master of Science in Finance degree at Florida International University (2002) and a Bachelor of Business Administration with majors in Management, and International Business (2001). He also earned an Associate Degree in Accounting at Miami Dade College. And now, he is enrolled in NSU’s Organizational Leadership doctoral program.
Mr. Alfonso served in the United States Army from 1986 to 1991. He earned the rank of Sergeant and, in 1990, participated in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a Cavalry Scout assigned to the 24th Infantry Division.
