Understanding the costs managing the different kind of waste your campus generate can be a challenge. It is essential for achieving cost-effective, sustainable, and environmentally responsible waste management practices that meet your institutional goals and regulatory requirements. It ensures that resources are utilized efficiently and that waste management strategies align with broader sustainability objectives for you institution.
Facilities Managers will develop a better understanding of the cost dynamics involved in waste management, helping them to make more informed decisions. They will learn about cost components such as collection, transportation and disposal. Understanding the Environmental Impact associated with different waste management practices such as landfilling vs recycling. Exploring opportunities for resource recovery and circular economy principals to help reduce costs and impacts to the environment.
Dave VanDeventer is the Solid Waste and Recycling Manager for Clemson University. He has more than 23 years working worked in the Solid Waste and Recycling Industry. He has helped Clemson University to become a national leader in waste diversion for their Recycling, Composting, Construction and Zero Waste programs.
While leading the waste diversion efforts, Dave works diligently to drive support and innovation by inspiring his staff and students to partake in Creative Inquiries, Internship Programs and Volunteerism. Dave regularly engages with Faculty and Staff on projects that benefit sustainability by collaborating on projects such as the Sustainability Action Plan and The Clemson University Waste Management Plan. On campus Dave is a committee member for the CU Sustainability Commission and the Solid Green Committee. Dave supports several industry groups such as the SWANA, APPA, ACC Sports Sustainability Committee, The Green Sports Alliance, The US Compost Council, and The College and University Recycling Coalition. Dave is a 2024 Graduate of the Leadership Academy, a board member for SCAPPA and is current board member and VP of the Carolina Recycling Association. Dave lives in Easley, SC with his family and enjoys running, hiking, golf, volunteering and serving in his church.
