Stop #1 – Historic North Campus /Holmes Hunter Building
Holmes-Hunter Academic Building: The Homes-Hunter Academic Building has a unique history being three buildings joined under one roof. The c.1831 Ivy Building and c.1860 Library Building were unified into a single composition in 1905. Recently renovated, the building features an extensive interior renovation with full systems retrofit paired with a painstaking exterior rehabilitation to the 1905 envelope including the including a faithful restoration of the building’s infilled central courtyard.
North Campus: Chartered in 1785, the University of Georgia is the first public university established in the United States. The historic North Campus features an eclectic collection of historic buildings ranging from 1806 to the middle of the twentieth century. Over the past 25 years the University has engaged an aggressive campaign of comprehensive rehabilitations honoring the past while providing modern facilities for the University’s administration, faculty and students.
Stop #2 DEP 2/ 2/Steam Plant Tours/Grounds Green Zone/Fleet Electrification
UEM staff will lead a tour of the Central Steam Plant and the neighboring District Energy Plant 2. We will show the history and present, and discuss the future, of heating and cooling utility generation and distribution to campus facilities. Additionally, Sustainability and Grounds staff will discuss our journey over the last two years to deploy electric vehicles and battery-powered grounds equipment to improve operational efficiency, reduce fuel costs, and enhance long-term fleet and grounds management.
