100 Minutes, 100 Hours, 100 Days - What To Do Following a Disaster or Loss

After the end of the 2024 Hurricane Season, you might find yourself asking questions about the educational facility that you manage. Do your facilities have a plan in the event of a disaster or loss? What are the first steps in developing such a plan? How should you respond immediately following a disaster or loss? This session will outline the crucial steps for an immediate and effective disaster response in the first 100 minutes, hours, and days following a catastrophe.

Participants will be provided with a detailed roadmap for the critical initial stages following a disaster, with an emphasis on pre-disaster planning, creating an action plan, and immediate response strategies. The presentation will also cover moisture detection techniques and the tools necessary for successful reconstruction. Gain the knowledge needed to navigate the aftermath of a disaster and ensure a resilient recovery!

1. After completing this session, participants will understand the need for pre-planning before a disaster strikes. Having a plan in place for what happens in the event of a catastrophe or natural disaster will help expedite the restoration process and make an already stressful situation easier to handle.

2. After completing this session, participants will be able to create and execute an emergency action plan that can be quickly put into place immediately following a disaster.

3. After completing this session, participants will have a better understanding of the most effective immediate response strategies to implement following a disaster or loss. By following the roadmap provided in this presentation, participants will be able to stabilize the situation and begin the recovery process.

4. After completing this session, participants will understand the importance of moisture detection in disaster/loss recovery and learn the different tools needed to identify and mitigate moisture-related damages.

Shawn Folks is the Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Guarantee Restoration Services. GRS is a full-service water, fire, and mold restoration company, based in Baton Rouge, LA. In 1974, his parents, Chunky and Ellen started Guarantee Restoration as a carpet cleaning business. Shawn has worked for the company in several capacities for about 35 years, starting as young as about five years old.

In 2014, Shawn took over his parents’ business as CEO, a role he continues to serve today. Since taking over, the company has expanded from one corporate office to 6 locations in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. In addition, he holds several industry licenses and certifications.
