Improving Student Experience with Technology in a Tradition Rich Environment

In a collaborative discussion with ASSA ABLOY, Penn State University will share how they successfully implemented a 12,500 electronic lock project that enhanced their student experience while providing the highest level of security. We will discuss how the project was implemented in a mix of major renovation as well as existing residential buildings across 12 campuses. In addition, we will also discuss the “Mobile First” initiative driving projects across all 22 campuses of Penn State.

With over 15 years of progressive experience at Penn State University, Aliana Steinbugl currently serves as the Director of Physical Security. In this role, Aliana oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive security strategies designed to protect the campus community, facilities, and critical infrastructure. More specifically, Aliana leads a team that is responsible for centralized access control, video surveillance, life safety systems, and mechanical keying. Having held various positions within the university, Aliana has developed a diverse understanding of security operations, emergency preparedness, and risk management. Aliana has been instrumental in integrating cutting-edge technologies and best practices to enhance safety and security. Her experience includes managing complex security challenges, fostering collaboration between public safety partners, and driving innovation in physical security measures. Aliana holds a strong commitment to building safer environments through proactive and adaptive security solutions.
